Kumbaya: Is it naive…or cynical?
Life, under the best circumstances, is all about choice, n’est-ce pas? As a citizen of the USA, I am fortunate to have choices about how I live and the type of person I want to be. So I choose to look for and encourage the good and avoid and discourage the bad.
Q - Who would mixes politics, religion and arts? On purpose?
A - Just tuning up here: Me,Me,Me,Me,Me….
I am a songwriter. I am interested in the power of creative minds to inspire and influence social change. I describe myself as an extroverted thinker-of-deep-thoughts who is fun loving, artsy and spiritual. I dislike phonies and bullies. I chose the name “Kumbaya, Baby!” for this blog because could be either intentionally naive or bitingly sarcastic. You decide.
I write about artist entrepreneurs, religion, politics and social issues. Religion and social/political issues are both areas where public discourse has gotten really ugly and convoluted lately. Now that I have a publicly visible spine, I want to write about common sense, moderation and civility, too.
Most artists I meet aren’t making tons of bucks, but they sure do work hard, and they sure are smart. I somehow meet many musicians who are also deeply religious, but who are unhappy with religious institutions. Wonder what THAT is about?
I have been quietly irritated by religious and political bullies for a bit too long. When folks in the good ol’ USA won’t use good ol’ American ingenuity to work around obstacles, won’t tolerate the views of others, and won’t set aside selfish interests to do what is best for our UNITED States, we are in trouble as a nation.
And so, my fellow artsy types…
If you are into: music, paintings, sculpture, cartoons, mixed media, quilts, novels, short stories, plays AND if you are interested in the intersection of the common good and art, please read on.
